Reshooting
Over the filming period me and Emma have had to do many reshoots this has been stressful as the reshoots we had to do were because of minor things that we missed. For example some of our characters were wearing the wrong items of clothing or forgot to have their school bags on. Also things such as being able to see the tripod in the corner of a shot or the fact that our tri pod was broken. By re-doing these shots we know it will improve our music video.
Actors
Tom Bryant will be playing our victm of bullying and our lead singer. He is 13 years old but is very confident when acting infront of the camera. Having him as both the victm and lead singer is a good idea because he is telling his story through his music video. Tom was also a good person to use as he is reliable and has been fine with giving up lunch times in school and out of school hours to help us with this.
Sam Thomas will be playing one of the bullies and the bands bassist. He is 14 years old and was confident to be in the music video but not confident to be the main character. He is Emma's brother so we knew that we could always get hold of him for filming and he was always reliable and ready to do the filming in school and out of school
Dan McGrath will be playing one of the bullies and the bands guitarist. He is 14 years old and was not very confident when it came to filming however, her tried his best and was someone else who we knew we could rely on for filming.
Ben will be playing another bully and the bands drummer. He is 14 years and we know that he plays the drums so we decided that we could use him for the band more so then the story. He was always reliable when it came to filming and was a good person to use for our music video.
Extras
Katie, Crystal, Jess, Mel, Emily and Jas will be extras in our music video so that when it came to filming the in school scenes such as the classroom scene then you actually have a classroom full of people and it looks more like a realistic lesson. All these girls were reliable and ready to film.

Music Video
We have now completed our music video and after watching over and over we have decided that some shots continue for to long and they can be sorted by splitting the clip and adding a different shot in the middle of it. For example when Tom is walking up the stairs to his class room it is shot from the bottom of the stairs. We could split this clip and have a shot in the middle from upstairs and then go back to the shot where its being filmed from downstairs. This will also mean that we can get more close-ups of Tom and show how he is feeling.
Click here to watch our music video.
We have put our music video on Youtube, Facebook and Twitter so people can watch it and give us feedback on what was good and what could be improved..

New casting
Another thing we have decided to do is change our main
character as we know he is not confident enough to act as the main role. Our
main character was Sam Thomas but has now been changed to Tom Bryant as we know
he will be have more confidence when acting for the camera.
Our band known as the 'Red Hot Chili Kids' will be made up of four of the boys we use to tell the story in out music video. Our person who is suffering from bullying Tom Bryant will be our lead vocalist the guitarist and bassist will be the two bullies James and Dan and the drummer will be Sam Thomas who will now be another bully instead of being our main character.

First session of filming
Some of the scenes we recorded will need to be changed a due
to the camera being shaky or something is wrong with the shots. For example
there is one shot where our character is running with no bag and then in the
next clip he has a bag on his shoulders. Also we have clip where our tripod can
be seen and there is another clip where from the outside you see the light is
off but when he walks inside the light is on.
After watching this over many times and making notes on how to improve are filming we now know what we need to do and change to make our music video successful.

NEW STORYBOARD!!!!
Due to our idea being changed we have now made a quick/rough new storyboard for our music video. Some sections of the video will be the same such as the morning routine. However, we do now have lots of new scenes to think about and how we will shoot them and then get the filming complete.
Here is part of our new storyboard:

New Ideas
Another idea we have had for our story has been taken from the music video Who's Laughing Now by Jessie J. The idea is to have our character being bullied and towards the end have him stand up for himself, we think this is a good idea as it will give our music video more of a story to base it on.
Here is a link to the Jessie J video we have looked at; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KsxSxF3JKeU
We have also looked at Hall of Fame music video by The Script which has given us more ideas for our storyline. This is a music video on two different stories and how people are treated from their different backgrounds. In this music video their is also an element of bullying.
Here is a link to The Scripts video we have looked at; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mk48xRzuNvA
We also think that our character in the story should be the one miming the lyrics as it is his story to tell. With this idea we may not have a band shown in our music video.

Poster idea
Me and Emma have made a draft version of our Red Hot Chili Kids poster. Before we made it we researched the Red Hot Chili Peppers posters to give us ideas on how to make our poster like theirs but also make it our own.
In our research we found that the Red Hot Chili Peppers used red, white and black in most of their designs for things like posters, album covers etc. and they always had their logo on everything. This gave us the idea for our poster to keep red, white and black as the color scheme and have a logo to be used on both the poster and digipak.

Song Lyrics!!
Can't Stop - The Red Hot Chili Peppers
Can't stop addicted to the shindig
Cop top he says I'm gonna win big
Choose not a life of imitation
Distant cousin to the reservation
Defunkt the pistol that you pay for
This punk the feeling that you stay for
In time I want to be your best friend
Eastside love is living on the west end
Knock out but boy you better come to
Don't die you know the truth is some do
Go write your message on the pavement
Burnin' so bright I wonder what the wave meant
White heat is screaming in the jungle
Complete the motion if you stumble
Go ask the dust for any answers
Come back strong with 50 belly dancers
[Chorus]
The world I love
The tears I drop
To be part of
The wave can't stop
Ever wonder if it's all for you
The world I love
The trains I hop
To be part of
The wave can't stop
Come and tell me when it's time to
Sweetheart is bleeding in the snow cone
So smart she's leading me to ozone
Music the great communicator
Use two sticks to make it in the nature
I'll get you into penetration
The gender of a generation
The birth of every other nation
Worth your weight the gold of meditation
This chapter's going to be a close one
Smoke rings I know your going to blow one
All on a spaceship persevering
Use my hands for everything but steering
Can't stop the spirits when they need you
Mop tops are happy when they feed you
J. Butterfly is in the treetop
Birds that blow the meaning into bebop
[Chorus]
Wait a minute I'm passing out
Win or lose just like you
Far more shocking
Than anything I ever knew
How about you
Ten more reasons
Why I need somebody new just like you
Far more shocking than anything I ever knew
Right on cue
Can't stop addicted to the shindig
Chop top he says I'm gonna win big
Choose not a life of imitation

Go write your message on the pavement
Burnin' so bright I wonder what the wave meant
Kick start the golden generator
Sweet talk but don't intimidate her
Can't stop the gods from engineering
Feel no need for any interfering
Your image in the dictionary
This life is more than ordinary
Can I get two maybe even three of these
Come from space
To teach you of the pliedes
Can't stop the spirits when they need you

For this song, lead singer Anthony Kiedis wrote the lyrics around the music. The words are a somewhat random collection of thoughts, with some creative rhyming thrown in to fit the rhythm of the song.
The song encourages the listener to live with passion and individuality ("This life is more than just a read-through"), something the Chili Peppers have done throughout their career.

Digi Pak!!
Here is an idea for our Digi Pak...
The front of our digipak will have the artists name and album title on it with the logo in the background. The colour scheme throughout our digipak will be red, white and black. The inside of our digipak will have our logo behind where the CD will go and on the information page we will have a range of individual shots of each member of the band and then some text about the album. On the back of the digipak will be the track list and a barcode. The digipak is very simple but i think that it is effective and it will stand out from others.

Storyboard!!
This is a rough storyboard with ideas for our music video...
Shots 1-6 of our storyboard show the band performing and our character waking up and getting ready in the morning. The first shot is of all the band starting to play the first chords of the song, the story for out music videos starts in shot 2 and 3 where we see our character waking up and then switching of his alarm it will be a close-up shot of the alarm so you can clearly see the time. The next few shots is showing things that people do most mornings such as going to the toilet, getting dressed, eating breakfast etc.
Shot 13 will be a close-up to our characters shoes showing him tie them up. It will then go to shot 14 which is him looking in the mirror as its is his last checks of how he looks before he leaves the how which is shown with match on editing in shot 15 and 16. The next few shots after this is of our character doing some stretches and warming up (lunges, jogging on the spot etc.) before he grabs his water bottle and starts to jog.
After seeing him jog from different angles the band will then come on the screen starting with a two shot of the guitarist and singer, it will then have a single shot of the drummer and then go on to a close-up of the bass. After that shot 28 will be of the entire band and then go into a close-up of the singer and then back to a full shot of the band.
It will then go back to our story and show the character out of breath and having a rest. In shot 34 it will be a close-up onto his phone showing a reminder which then gives him the look of determination in shot 35 and leads to shot 36 which shows him starting to run again.

Shot 37 is a medium close up of the singer and guitarist, then in shot 38 it goes into a medium close-up of the guitarist and the next shot is a close up on the guitarist. The last couple of shots show the character achieving his goal by him crossing the finishing line and then we see him on the podium and our last shot is of our band messing about.

Planning
Costume and Props
Band - Me and Emma have decided that for the band we will have props such as amps and wires in the room behind and around the band we think this will look effective if they are in an empty hall and that they will stand out. We have decided that the band will be wearing casual clothing which is fairly scruffy.
The actors in the story will be wearing casual/sporty clothing and will use many different props such as phones, bottles, computers etc.
Location
Me and Emma have decided to locate our music video at Portishead Youth Centre. We have decided to have our video here as they have got a hall which will work really well for the part of the video in which the band is performing.
We will also be using other locations to film our music video's story such as The Lake Grounds, Fields, Houses, Gardens etc.
Representation of artists and other groups
The band will be represented by youths and we will change the name of the band to The Red Hot Chili Kids, we thought of this idea because are plan is for the storyline to show young people achieving.
The young people who will be in the music video and a part of the story will be represented as strong, independent and willing to do whatever it takes to achieve their goals/dreams.

Our Music Video Idea
Me and Emma have decided to use the song 'Can't Stop' by The Red Hot Chili Peppers for our music video. However we are going to create a story which will go with the lyrics as we think that The Red Hot Chili Peppers music video has no storyline and we want to give it one. We have taken our idea from The Scripts music video for their song 'Hall Of Fame' which is based on people succeeding in what they want to do and not stopping until they can reach their goal.
In our music video we will have a band miming Can't Stop and playing their instruments. They will not be a part of the story but you will still see clips of them throughout the music video.
Me and Emma have emailed Warner Brothers which is the record label which made 'Can't Stop' with The Red Hot Chili Peppers asking them for consent to use this song for our Media coursework. This is a screenshot of what we sent;

Research
Narratives
What different types of stories commonly appear in music videos?
Music videos tend to have story lines which go with the artists song and the lyrics usually help to tell the story. For example Rihanna's music video for her song 'We Found Love' is about a couple who are in love but have relationship problems.
Relationships and romance seem to be two of the biggest things used as a storyline in music video's. For example 'Mirrors' by Justin Timberlake, 'Baby' by Justin Bieber and their are many others as well. If music videos aren't about relationships and romance its usually about having fun doing crazy things and partying. For example 'How We Do' by Rita Ora, Sorry for Party Rocking' by LMFAO, 'Five Colors in her hair' by Mcfly. However, not all music videos relate to the songs and also their are many songs that have music videos which people don't understand and some music videos are of just the artist(s) performing.
Also I have mainly been talking about one sort of genre in the music industry and all genre's are different with their music videos.
Performance
Do you always see the artist(s) in their music videos?
No, some artist(s) tend to not be in their music videos and just like a story to be told from their song. For example, we do not see David Guetta or Sia in the music video for 'Titanium'. However, most music videos have the artist(s) being seen throughout and sometimes they are actually a part of the story (Katy Perry - Hot and Cold) or other times you just see snippets of them throughout the video (The Script - Hall Of Fame).

Audience Research
I have done a small questionnaire to find out what people think about the artist(s) they like and their music videos. I asked 14 people and this is the results.
The main people I asked were still in their teenage years which means they're more likely to watch television and go through different music channels every day.
12 out of 14 people said they enjoyed watching their favorite artist(s) music videos. When asked why many of them said they enjoy the storyline behind the song and that music videos with a clear meaning behind them make you want to watch them over again. However another who said yes to watching music videos said they watch them because they enjoy seeing the artist(s) performing the song and having fun in their music videos. One of the participants who said they do not enjoy watching the music videos said no because they would much rather just listen to the song and enjoy the lyrics then focus on a video trying to explain the meaning. The other participant said no because they only rarely listen to music on the radio which means there would be no music video to watch.

When asking what genres of music people enjoy listening to them 6 out of 14 said they enjoyed pop music the most. When asked why most of them replied with the same answer which is that they enjoy the happy vibe given from the music and that they are usually up beat and good to dance to.
The second highest listened to genre on my questionnaire was indie music when asked why they enjoy it one person said that its the new type of music to be into. This made me think are they telling the truth that this is their favorite music genre or are they trying to fit in with everyone else by 'following the crowed'. One person chose Dubstep as their favorite type of music genre, when asked why the respondent said they enjoy the fast pace, they like how they can just jump around and go crazy when listening to it and they also like the 'buzz' feeling they get inside when the beat kicks in.

Poster Research
Jessie J album release poster
By dressing the artist in black and having her name and the album title over her chest in a brighter color makes the name and title stand out and catch peoples eyes.
Only one picture which is of the artist and they've done the poster so she will have eye contact with those looking at it.

With this poster they have not filled it with as much information as other posters such as Taylor Swifts 'RED'. They have information of certain things that will be featured in the album such as her collaboration with B.O.B.
Underneath this it has a link which would direct you to the artists official music page, this is good because if they wanted to know more information about the album which isn't on the poster such as the release date then they would be-able to find it.
Poster Research
Taylor Swift album release poster
I think this is a really good album release poster it has all the details you need to know about it and its also very eye catching. Red is used as one of the main colors for this poster and I think this is really affective as the album is called 'RED'.
Another great thing this poster has done is used the iTunes logo showing that this song can be bought/pre-ordered and put straight onto you iPod or smartphone. Also by having a photo of the album cover on it as well it shows that their is more than one way possible to get it.
This poster also says what will be included in the album such as a song featuring Ed Sheeran, this will increase the sales of the album as they know that another well known artist will be featuring in it.
The name of the album, the name of the artist and the release date are all in big bold letters, this is to grab everyone's attention and let them know exactly who its by and when they can get it.
Another thing i think that is good is the main image on the poster, it shows you who the artist is.
They have also done it so half of her face is in shadow i think this is really good as the sunlight is on the bottom half of her face and it makes her red lips stand out (Red lips, album is called red).
On the bottom right it also has the well known slogan which goes with this album 'Lets paint the town RED!' I think it was good that they put this on the poster and it obviously links with the album so it will grab peoples attention and make them want to buy it.

Spike Jonze is well respected for making influential and alternative videos, he is known to work with the artist to bring out true emotion and capture the artists own illustration.
( His interpretation of making music videos)
One music video that Spike Jonze is well known for is Fat Boy Slims 'Praise you'. He actually starred in the music video under the pseudonym Richard Koufey along with a fictional dance group. The video was shot in guerilla style (that is on a location without obtaining permission from the owners of the property) in front of puzzled on lookers outside a movie theatre in Westwood, California. The 'Praise you' video came into being because Spike Jonze was unable to work with Fat Boy Slim on the video for 'The Rockefeller Skank's' so he sent his own solo dance video to "Skank" as a gift; Jonze's 'alternate' music video was so well received by slim that Jonze's fictional Torrance Community Dance Group was green-lighted for the official video of 'Praise you'.

Digipak Research
Muse
- They have kept the same house style throughout
- The band name is bigger then the album title (stands out more), the font is quite boring
- They do not look like a band in their cover photo, they look like a group of mates round for a poker night.
- The place where their picture is set is very random and looks as though they are on another planet, this background is also continued to the back cover of the digipak.
- There is nothing important which would be covered by the CD
- The photo inside the digipak is quite boring and dull, I think they should have some writing here about the artist or the album
- A list of the song names on the back so people will know what to expect

The Ting Tings
- Same house style throughout the digipak
- The cover has the name of the group but no image of them, this could be good because people may only know the artist because of what they look like and not seeing them may encourage them to listen to this album
- The cover is very simple but it's also affective
- The fonts are simple on the cover i think they could have used something more wild
- The inside of this digipak is quite simple with again no pictures of the artists but writing.
- On the side where the CD would be their is a small paragraph of thanks and also another small paragraph saying who the album was written, produced and mixed by,
- The other side looks like the writing has been smudged and its quite random sentences.
- The back of the case is where you finally see the artists. They are in black and white which makes them stand out from the rest of the digipak.
- The list of all songs on the album are also on the back cover, the fronts for the numbers and the song names are different on the back and the numbers change sizes, I think this is good and makes the album cover that little bit more interesting..
I think that this is a good digipak because it is simple yet the use of a bright house style has made it stand out from other Digi Paks. It also shows that you don't need to put your artist on the cover as long as they're on it somewhere, however i personally think that it is better to have an artist of the front cover.
Digipak Research
Red Hot Chili Peppers- The Red Hot Chili Peppers album 'Greatest Hits' has a consistent house style through out the digipak
- The picture on the front shows that the 4 members which make up The Red Hot Chili Peppers are funny and they enjoy doing wild things such as naked photo-shoots.
- The sticker at the bottom saying 'explicit content' also shows that these 4 guys are going to have quite wild music.
- The font used on the front cover looks as though it has been stamped there and i think this makes the front cover look better.
- Also I think that the use of the bands well known logo behind their main image is a good idea because that will grabs peoples attention as its eye catching and also people will know that this logo symbolizes The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
- The inside of the Digi Pak has an individual shot of all 4 members of the band on the left side. These photos are simple and don't take up to much room so they still have a lot of space to write about the album and say thank you etc.
- They have not put any images or writing behind the CD's, however by putting a lot on the left side of the digipak and having the logo on the CD's i do not think that they need anything else.
I think that this digipak shows that even though its simple it can still be effective.

One must be unconventional - Nickleback - Rockstar
I think that this music video is unconventional as the lyrics are about being a Rockstar and having girls after you, drinking, doing drugs and not caring. However the music video is random people miming the lyrics such as males and females from the age of 8 to about 55, I also believe that it is unconventional as with certain genres people are stereotyped to have that 'look' for that certain genre such as rock they expect them to wear dark clothes and have piercings and tattoos, but in this music video everyone is wearing something different and most of them don't look as if this is the type of genre they would listen to.
Nicklebacks type of genres are things such as hard rock, alternative rock, pop rock, post grunge and alternative metal.
How does it show this genre? This music video only represents these genres when their is clips of people miming this song who look like the stereotyped people for this type of music. For example this is people with tatoos, piercings, long hair and like skulls and motorbikes.
Mise en sceneCostume - Casual clothes, work clothes
Emotions - Varied emotions
Gender - Both male and female
Camera WorkEstablishing shots - Everyone is in separate places could be at home, at work, social areas or just in the streets miming to the song.
How did it present gender? Each individual is represented differently in this music video. However I think that in this video many of the girls are seen as sex icons due to what they are wearing and the way they move to the song. Some males are seen as more masculine then the others, this is shown by what they're wearing and what they're doing during the video.
AudienceTheir audience is stereotyped to be these big scary masculine blokes who have lots of tattoos and piercings who ride bikes and get into pub fights. However they actually have a very mixed demographic ranging from the younger to the older members of society and even those who probably wouldn't pick rock as their favorite genre.

This is a conventional music video as it is defiantly a stereotyped males pop video. Its set at a pool party where their is pretty girls in swimming costumes, bikinis and are sun bathing, their are also attractive males messing about, skate boarding and diving into the pool.

How will is present gender? This music video shows girls as these stereotyped girly girls who wear dresses and make up and are all really beautiful, it also shows the boys as the stereotypical sporty manly lads who try to act 'cool.
Audience?
For this music video i believe that the audience is more likely to be teen girls aged 13 - 16 this is because the lead singer is an attractive young boy about their age who half way through the song takes his top off.

This is a very crazy video and their is allsorts going on for example clubbing, singing in the street, doing graffiti and moments of just them singing and the lyrics coming on the screen.Icona pop's type of genre is dance and electro pop, this type of music is always upbeat and gets everyone dancing along.
How does it show this genre? These genres are shown with everyone clubbing and dancing.

Emotion - Motivational gives of this happy feel to it.
Gender - A song for everyone, both males and females in the video.
Camera work

How did it present gender?I think that this music videos represents everyone letting lose and having a good time and not worrying about what other people think of you. I think it mainly represents women as its sung by two female singers and its based on them.
AudienceThis songs demographic are probably those for the age between 15 - 29 this is because its and upbeat song that keeps you going with whatever you are doing.

Released this year - One Direction - One Way or Another
In this video there is a wide range of different places shown as it was filmed all over the world for comic relief. They are doing random things in this video such as dancing, showering, sleeping and much more, I think the main reason of this music video is so you watch it smile and then are given the urge to donate to comic relief.
One direction have quite a few different genres to show their type of music, these are mainly pop based though such as dance pop, pop rock, power pop and teen pop.
How does it show this genre?Their is a a lot of different genres attached to this boy band but i think that this music video is more pop rock then the others. However this isn't really shown because of things like their cheesy dancing and messing around.
Mise en scene
Costumes - A wide range of different styled clothing (e.g. smart casual to shower caps and dressing gowns).
Emotions - Put everyone in a good mood. (happy)
Gender - Both genders are represented in this music video. More likely to be viewed by women.
Camera WorkEstablishing shots - They are all over the world in this video and their is key moments in each clip which will show a well known building such a big ben to show where they are.
How did it present gender? The five main boys in this video were obviously the members of one direction, at some points in the video they do some gestures which could be seen as 'camp' or quite feminine, this shows that although they are male they were still doing feminine moves/things such as skipping and doing shoulder shimmy's.
AudienceThe audience for this will most likely be teenage girls as the artists are attractive well known young males. Also many people may watch and enjoy this music video as it is a charity single so it would have been mentioned alot on TV, radio, social networking sites and by other people in your area.

One from the UK - Rizzle Kicks - When i was a youngster
In this music video the boys are singing about what they wanted to be when they grew up (e.g. fireman and astronaut), it involves lots of messing about and kiddish behavior like playing video games, being in a park and playing cowboys and Indians.
The Rizzle kicks boys main music genre is British hip-hop/Alternative hip-hop.
How does it show this genre? The genre of this music video is shown by the locations in the video, what the lyrics actually say and how the artist are acting.
Mise en sceneCostumes - Fancy dress and casual clothing such as jeans, hoodies and t-shirts.
Emotions - Happy, funny and childlike behavior
Gender - Male based. Music video more for males.
Camera work
Establishing shots - In a business type work place but dressed in childish fancy dress, in a playground, in what looks like a little messy flat with friends.
How did it represent gender?
This video shows your 'stereotypical' boys who like to play video games, drink cider cans (lyrics), mess about play fighting with each other. It also shows what boys thought they were going to be when they were younger compared to what they actually are doing now.
AudienceThe audience for this song and this genre of music is probably teens between the age of 14-17. I think this is because this is the age where you start to laugh at what you thought you would be when you grew up but now its time to start thing realistically.

One from 1990 or older - Mc Hammer - You can't touch this
Their is no storyline for this music video and its just full of loads of people doing the same dance routine everywhere.
This music video is very catchy and gets everyone moving along to it, this is seen as coming from the genre oh 'hip-hop'.
How does it show this genre? This genre is shown by the outfits they wear, the 'cheesy' type of dance moves they use and the type of upbeat song it is.
Mise en sceneCostumes - Men in haream pants and jackets, girls in crop tops with shorts or skinny jeans.
Emotions - Everyone is pumped up has lots of energy in this video.
Gender - Male singer. Male and female dancers.

Camera shots are always changing to show the different people doing this one dance routine. Also their is also medium close-ups on peoples mid area to show them doing the swaying/thrusting hip gestures.
Editing
Cuts - Their are lots of cut aways in this music video which show different people in different places doing the dance routine.
Synchronous (with beat) - Yes the singing and routine is all in time with the beat.

In this music video both genders are dancing along to the song and doing the same routine this shows that although a male is singing they're all equal in this video, however during a certain part of the routine M.C. Hammer does a hip thrust towards one of the females and this could show how females are seen as sex icons.
AudienceEveryone from a wide range of ages and different genders all enjoyed this song when it was released and it is still a well known and enjoyed song nowadays, when you hear the start of this song you can't help but start to dance to it.

A2 MEDIA!!
This coursework I will be producing a music video, a Digi Pak and a poster for a band/group or solo artist.
For the research task we have to search 6 different music videos from the genre of music which we are thinking about doing. I'm not sure on a genre yet so for now I'm looking at a random selection of music videos.
Here are links to each song i looked at..
One from 1990 or older: M.C. Hammer - You can't touch this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otCpCn0l4Wo
